During our stint in Maple Canyon we decided to take a brief vacation from our climbing vacation to check out the mountain range on the other side of the valley. Known as the Wasatch Plateau, it was well worth the trip. The plateau runs north-south and is traversed by a single lane dirt road called the Skyline Drive for 50 or so miles, all at around 10,000 feet. Around each curve is yet another stunning alpine view with valleys and ridges running into the eastern canyonlands and western Great Basin.
There were only two negatives which detracted from the overall experience. First was the completely overwhelming presence of ATV'ers. This is quite possible the worst "outdoor" activity ever devised, in my humble estimation. I could go on and on, but I won't. Needless to say it made me rethink my dirtbike. The other problem, widespread throughout the West, was the bark-beetle kill. Most of the forest was approximately 80% dead. It made me wish I'd been able to see the area ten or twenty years ago (or two hundred really!)

Adam-breath taking is the only word that comes to mind! The picture of the trees is so very sad and at the same time so beautiful. Mom
